17 Total Eclipses of the Heart <3

Where will you be on October 14, 2023? Me? I’ll be somewhere in the southwest US with my eyes and camera pointed skyward toward an amazing astronomical event, a “Ring of Fire” annular solar eclipse. This will be my second attempt to see one and my first attempt to photograph one.

Although annular eclipses are not nearly as dramatic as total solar eclipses, I am looking forward to seeing something I’ve never seen before. I’m also looking forward to photographing it with my new Nikon Z7ii (with a proper solar filter).

My true passion is total solar eclipses. I saw my first total solar eclipse in 1998 with my husband, Bill. As soon as the eclipse was over, he asked “when and where is the next one?” We chased them all over the world together, even viewing one from a charter flight over Antarctica. Bill took some amazing photographs while I just watched the spectacle. After he died, I continued traveling, racking up 17 total solar eclipses so far. I finally attempted to photograph one this year.

Although annular eclipses are not nearly as dramatic as total solar eclipses, I am looking forward to seeing something I’ve never seen before. I’m also looking forward to photographing it with my new Nikon Z7ii (with a proper solar filter).

My next question is, where will you be on April 8, 2024? That will be the Really Big Show!
