Paul Comon

President

A Native Californian and Torrance resident since 1932, Paul has attended school at Fern Avenue, St.James, Torrance High, El Camino College, Harbor City College and Julian Hiatt School of Photography. Paul founded Paul's Photo, Inc. in 1961. He started serious photography with a 4x5 Graflex, and currently owns (but no longer uses) two 8x10 view cameras, several 4x5's, a complete Hasselblad, and both Leica M&R systems.

Paul currently shoots only with Digital Equipment. " I treat digital shots much like I treated film; I hand over my files to the Paul's photo lab. I still demand prints for my albums, and they are better printers than I will ever be. I have not been in my darkroom for over four years," he says.

Paul's greatest photographic joy lies in the capturing of images. "Images captivate, entice and often elude me. They present a never-ending challenge, keeping photography vibrant and alive for me after all these years."

Mark Comon

Vice President

As a Certified Photographic Counselor, photo instructor and photographic artist, Mark Comon has the knowledge and experience to solve any photographic problem or question. Since 1988, Mark has taught more than 250 students per month in Paul's Photo classes. A dynamic lecturer, Mark has entertained and educated audiences from first-time snap-shooters and hobbyists to industry professionals.

Mark has taken student groups on photographic tours throughout Europe, Africa and the American Southwest. Mark's popular Photo Adventures to California's natural wonders (Death Valley, Monterey, the Eastern Sierras, and Yosemite) are always sold out! He is the originator of the Los Angeles Zoo Photo Day, now in its 24th year. His images have been featured in many publications, including Outdoor Photographer, PC Photo and Photographic magazine. Twelve landscape images were recently selected for permanent display at the Furnace Creek Ranch in Death Valley.

Jeff Ikemiya

Production Manager

Jeff is the production manager at PAUL'S PHOTO. He oversees the professional printing lab, which offers everything from basic 4x6 prints to massive canvas wraps, metal printing, passport photos, photo books and calendars, and more! Jeff and his team are always working magic in the lab.

Jeff has been in the field for thirty years and still loves the look of film, but he also embraces the flexibility of digital photography. He is 47 years young and has been married twenty years to his college sweetheart. They have three lovely daughters.

Sheryl Comon

Book Keeper

Sheryl is a former homemaker, with three terrific kids, and has served as bookkeeper and "Girl Friday" at PAUL"S PHOTO since October of 2011. "My co-workers and our customers make this the best job in town," Sheryl says.

Sheryl loves photographs for their ability to capture the memories and moments in life that mean something. She believes a great image will let you experience life, wonder, thrills, joy, beauty or heartbreak, even without having been there.

Jackie DesForges

Creative Photo Academy Director

Jackie oversees the Creative Photo Academy, which is adjacent to PAUL'S PHOTO. She handles all class scheduling, registrations, marketing, the PAUL'S PHOTO monthly newsletter, social media, and online calendar. She has been working with PAUL'S since March 2013 and has enjoyed learning about the world of photography and small business.

She has a background in writing and art history and spends her spare time freelancing for various travel websites.

Leonard Monge

IT Clerk

After a successful career in Information Technology, Leonard decided to start his second career in the field of photography. He began his hobby while serving in the U.S. Army in the early 1970s.

At PAUL'S PHOTO, Leonard assists with computer and office support issues. He has also taught several photo classes at the Creative Photo Academy, and he works as an independent photographer in his spare time (his favorite subjects to photograph are sports and big events).

Buddy Barreras

Sales Team

Buddy Barreras is one of the newest additions to the PAUL'S sales team. He is a student at CSULB currently studying Civil Engineering. When he is not at school, Buddy likes to spend his time with freelance photography specializing in concerts, portraiture, and dance. In his free time, he enjoys swimming, playing drums, and going to Disneyland.

Kenneth Bowen

Sales Team

Kenneth has loved photography ever since the 7th grade, and his first camera was a Canon AE1 film camera. He would love to support himself with a commercial or fine art photography career someday (or a bit of both!). He wants to push himself beyond strictly photography to hopefully one day publish books with landscape, street, portrait, and still life photography. He wants his images to be memorable, moving pieces that have the power to create change for the better. Kenneth is one of the youngest members of our sales team and provides an energy and enthusiasm that is contagious for anyone who meets him.

Lauren Sabol

Sales Team

Lauren assists the sales team with offering customers expert advice and friendly service. Though she has only been with PAUL'S a short time she has already proven that she can keep up with the Sales guys " an admirable feat " and she has assisted Jackie with marketing and sales for the Creative Photo Academy.

Mike Rutledge

Sales Team

When Mike was 11 years old, his best friend's father, a photographer, took him to PAUL'S PHOTO. It was right next to Food Giant. "Does anyone remember Food Giant?" Mike jokes. This visit was the start of Mike's life-long passion for photography. Mike assists the sales team in offering expert advice and service to PAUL'S PHOTO customers.

Ray Vidal

Production Department

Ray, who was born and raised in the South Bay, went to El Camino College with the intention of becoming a sports writer. However, he found story-telling to be much more rewarding when using images. Ray discovered he could meet a newspaper deadline with a camera and film, and not a pen and paper.

Ray covers sporting events in the beach cities area for the Easy Reader. He also works in the PAUL'S PHOTO production department, and occasionally behind the camera counter. When asked why he loves photography, Ray responded, "Telling someone's story with a split second of time still amazes me."

Nancy Howe

Production Department

Nancy took photography classes as a high school student and undergraduate. She has a graduate degree in lighting design for theatre, and she has spent a lot of time taking photos in dark places. Like many people, Nancy has spent many enjoyable years photographing her children and their activities. For the last few years, she has been shooting mostly theatre dance for a local dance company.

Nancy works in the PAUL'S PHOTO Production Department printing photos, taking care of customers, and, in her words, being "a bit of a geek-about-town."

Nancy's little-known facts:

  • I have gotten all 120 stars in Mario 64.
  • I spent most of my weekends growing up at Catalina Island.
  • I can juggle (but not very well).
  • Cats like me.
  • I figured out the meaning of life but forgot to write it down.
  • Over-thinking simple things until they're complicated is just one of my many diverse talents.
  • I believe googly eyes make anything better.
  • I can make minute rice in 50 seconds.
  • My goal is to become a professional brunch eater.
  • It was on fire when I got here. Really, it was.

Margo Hendricks

Shipping Department

Margo oversees all shipments at PAUL'S PHOTO. She is also the liaison between customers and camera service companies when customers bring in equipment for repair. Margo has always loved and admired photography, but is one of the few non-photographers at PAUL'S PHOTO. She loves stories, and believes photographs tell great ones.

Margo was born in Hermosa Beach and is a lifelong South Bay resident. Her interests include music, Elizabethan history, accounting, native plants and edible wildflowers. When not at work, Margo can be found in her garden, or anywhere outdoors.

Steve Griffin

Production Department

Steve was born and raised in Southern California. He bought an SLR camera when he graduated from college, and fell in love with aviation photography while waiting for a flight home from San Francisco. He has been hanging out in the parking lots of LAX ever since, and has met most of his friends there. Steve works in the Production Department at PAUL'S PHOTO, where he helps customers bring their photos to life on paper, canvas, metal, and more.

John Eckmier

Sales Team

John first got into photography when he picked up a camera in junior high school. Since then, he has established himself as a professional freelance photographer specializing in runway fashion, sports, landscape, and fine art. He has been an integral part of the PAUL'S PHOTO sales team for almost a decade.

Will Carnahan

Production Department

Will assists with all things video-related at Paul's Photo, including video transfer and custom slideshows. He also prints Paul's fine quality photos. Will Carnahan grew up in the South Bay and earned his MFA in Film and Television Production at Loyola Marymount University. He currently is a Freelance Cinematographer (Director of Photography), shooting commercials, music videos, and movies. In the past 5 years will has shot video on almost every type of format from 35 and 16mm to HD_DSLRs and RED Camera. You can see his work at www.williamcarnahan.com

Zach Comon

Zach has been in and around Pauls Photo his entire life. A few years ago he began working in the store during busy seasons, like during Christmastime and Easter break. Currently, he works in the printing department and also assists with accounting for the business.

Zach loves photography because it can capture any moment in time and be used to save all the memories and events that occur during our lives.

Gerry Imura

Gerry received his first camera on his 18th birthday and has been hooked ever since. He is always ready to talk photography with customers in the store, and he also teaches his own series of Photo Walks at the Creative Photo Academy. He is also available for one-on-one photography tutoring. He has compiled several promotional videos for the store, and in his spare time he enjoys cooking and car maintenance (he can often be seen practicing on our cars in the parking lot of PAUL'S).
